New Delhi: Separatist groups in Srinagar have called for a general strike on Tuesday to protest against Monday’s fire at a 200-year-old Sufi Shrine Peer Dastageer Sahib.

The cause of the fire is still not known but the relics inside were safely recovered by officials. The protestors alleged that firefighters arrived late on the scene to douse the flames.

Meanwhile, the government has ordered a probe by the Kashmir divisional commissioner. Authorities say the fire began from four areas of the shrine taking over most of the roof, but there is still no word on the cause.
